Install and update with curl
Development reference · View source
On x86-64 or ARM64 Linux and macOS:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/runyte/runyte/main/install.sh | sh
Run the same command again to update.
What the script does:
- Resolves the latest GitHub Release once.
- Downloads that version’s archive and
SHA256SUMSover HTTPS. - Checks the archive’s SHA-256.
- Stages the executable and replaces
~/.local/bin/runyte.
- A failed download, checksum, or extraction leaves an existing installation intact.
- The checksums establish integrity against the release manifest. They are not independent signatures.
- The installer source
is maintained in this repository and
served from
main.
Requirements:
- No sudo.
curl, tarwith xz support, eithersha256sumorshasum, and standard Unix utilities. Some Linux distributions package xz support separately asxz-utilsorxz.- Linux needs glibc 2.35 or newer. Alpine/musl and other operating systems or architectures are rejected.
- macOS binaries are unsigned and unnotarized. The script does not change Gatekeeper settings.
Read the script before running it:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/runyte/runyte/main/install.sh -o install.sh
less install.sh
sh install.sh
Pin a version or choose a directory. The script accepts a release version
(with or without v) and an absolute install directory:
sh install.sh --version 0.3.0 --install-dir "$HOME/.local/bin"
- Omit
--versionto install or update to the latest release. - Keep the same
--install-dirwhen updating a custom installation. - A pinned version can reinstall or downgrade to any release with matching archives and checksums.
- The script refuses a symlink or directory at the destination
runytepath.
Add the directory to PATH if it is not already there. For the default
location in a POSIX shell:
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
After installing:
- Check
command -v runyteandrunyte --version, especially if another copy was installed through Cargo or manually. The installer only updates the copy in its chosen directory. - Running editors and persistent sessions keep using the old executable until restarted. Save your work before restarting them.
- The script installs the executable only. It does not change configuration or shell startup files.
- To uninstall, remove
~/.local/bin/runyte(or the file in your custom directory).
