Action sequences
Development reference · View source
A list runs its actions directly, one after another. It never types keys or triggers other bindings.
Order. Each action in the reference is marked continue or last.
- A
continueaction can be followed by another action. - A
lastaction must end the list. These are actions that open a prompt, wait for a character, change mode, or start background work. - So a list can end with
find-next-char, which then waits for a character, or withenter-insert-mode, which then accepts typing. - Nothing continues automatically after a prompt or background operation.
Failure. An error or unavailable action stops the list.
- Actions that already ran stay applied.
- A list is not rolled back. A saved file stays saved.
Counts. A single action keeps its usual count behavior. A count before a multi-action binding is rejected before anything runs.
Undo.
- A list of selection-only actions is one selection-history step.
- Text undo follows each action’s own checkpoints and Insert-mode grouping. A list is not one undoable change.
Paste stays literal, and macros record the physical keys you press, as before.
